We Want You To Spend Your Day With Us.

A Third Space first opened its doors on a sticky, warm evening in September 2024. The programme was simple, and the agenda was lean. We asked our community to bring their vinyl records, and together we gathered in the charming folds of the Hfactor flat to listen to them. Time flew by quickly. The games stumbled into laughter, into conversations and into lingering that all felt natural and easygoing.

That programme is still one of my favourites to date. Not merely for the fact that you rarely forget your firsts and that it confirmed to me that I needed a community like this, it was also an affirmation. That other people need this sort of connection, the amiable hospitality that can only come when people who care about the same things come together. Even with that first and admittedly modest launch, we have always known that A Third Space will come to be more for our community. It has been our mission to expand the ideas of what a space should be and what a community can look like.

The heart of why we exist is in our varied programming; the readings, the film screenings, the experimental sound sessions and the deeply engaging conversations. However, the architecture that surrounds that heart and keeps it beating is our hospitality. At every programme, no matter the size, no matter the place, we have made it a priority to treat our community with immense consideration.

Before the doors open, we pore over the drinks, we consider the seating arrangements, we have a look at the temperature, and make sure everything is fitted enough so our guests can stay through the evening. Needless to say, we always love having our community and friends around. The longer the better.

And so we are delighted to be launching Common Area, an extension of that hospitality and a chance to spend more time with members of our community, old and new. In its current iteration, Common Area will function as a pop-up cafe and experimental community space. The first edition will take place from June 6-7 and will be free to attend. We will take over the wonderful Dada Gallery for both days.

In building Common Area, we wanted to make sure we are not only offering a new extension of A Third Space, but we also wanted to offer something fresh, interesting, culturally timely and above all, a space to linger and wander all day long.

At Common Area, here’s what you can expect:

  • A Cafe/Bar
  • A Sandwich Bar
  • Pocket-friendly prices
  • A Library
  • A Vinyl Section
  • A Gathering Space
  • A Workspace (with Free Wifi)

We have curated Common Area to activate your creative senses, to provide you with a temporary escape from the city and to serve as a ground for dialogue and cultural exchange.

The space will be open for you to work, commune, eat, drink and read, with a slate of programmes scheduled at select times, including:

  • A Book-Binding Workshop
  • A Conversation On the Cost Of Building Community
  • Screening of Documentaries and Experimental Films (Running from 3 pm each day)
  • Sound Session
  • + more

You can check out the vinyl station while taking a break from work or grab a quick bite at the cafe while watching one of the documentaries playing at the gathering area. With Common Area, it is our hope here at A Third Space that you have a space that will simply be exactly what you need. We are excited to expand our collective idea of what A Third Space means, and truly, we cannot wait to spend the whole day with you.

Many thanks to our sponsors and partners, Pocket App (our financial sponsor) and DADA Gallery (our space partner).
