December At A Third Space

In December, we wrapped up our programming for the year with two stellar events: our first private dinner Pass The Salt in partnership with S.EA Experience and Magik Hour, an experimental program with Show Dem Camp in partnership with Nahous and Deeds Magazine.

Magik Hour with Show Dem Camp

Winny, Koresede Akinsete and Tec of Show Dem Camp at Magik Hour

To enter the sprawling world of Show Dem Camp’s Afrika Magik album, we transformed a section of the historic Nahous building into a video club.

Those famous stands and shops sold Nollywood movies in cassettes and were the first point of access for many Nollywood lovers. Our simulated video club enriched a vibrant programming that used sound, text, and conversations to better understand Old Nollywood’s impact on how we think about style, love, romance, community and ambition. This was the bedrock of SDC’s album and it was a delight to bring this afternoon to life.

We premiered an A3S Original sound documentary directed by Mo Isu and narrated by Nengi Nelson, listened to readings and closed out the session with a call-in session from SDC fans.

Many thanks to our co-collaborators, the writers and artists who delivered powerful readings including Korede Akinsete Kaneto, Ugonna Ora-Owoh, Yimika Owoaje, and Tec. And even more thanks to Winny for joining our conversation, and Korede who led the discussion and voiced our live radio simulation.

Pass The Salt.

Filmmaker Dika Ofoma and Multidisciplinary Artist Fiyin Koko at Pass The Salt.

At our first Pass The Salt series in collaboration with the amazing folks at Oriki 11 and our wonderful space partner S.Ea Experience, we gathered to reflect on a year of many changes, exploring what it means to look forward. The evening was alive with conversation, moving poetry readings by the incredible actor and filmmaker Belinda Yanga and an interactive music performance by Suni. Sat around a family style dinner were some of our closest collaborators and A3S Members including Falana, Fiyin Koko, Joyce Olong, Ayo Lawson, Goodness Emmanuel and others.

Many thanks to everyone who shared a table with us under the night sky. Thank you and see you again soon.
